On the road by 8.30am, car packed to the rafters (if a car can have rafters) and Tess in the boot.
A pretty uneventful journey to Folkstone on a hot sunny day.
Arrived at Eurotunnel around 2pm. Our booking was for 4.20pm, but we had no trouble in getting on an earlier train.
30 minutes later, Paula and I arrived in France.
Now to find Formule 1 in Coquelles, but we'd planned the trip down to Kent so carefully and completely forgotten to look up where the hotel was!
However, after driving round a short time we luckily came across it.
Now to contact Phil and Simon, travelling up from St. Sebastien - no reply. An hour past, still no word - have they forgotten the date? Or forgotten their phones?? Another hour and a reply - arriving in 20 minutes.
F1's are ok for somewhere to shower and sleep, but that's about all, very basic - not even a kettle in the room. Bought some juice and climbed out of the window to relax on the grass behind the hotel. Phil and Simon soon found us there.
We thought Coquelles, being not far from Calais and the port, would offer a selection of Seafood Restaurants - not so, or at least not that we came across, so we ended up in Calais itself at a small bistro 'Poissonaire' which incredibly didn't have any fish on the menu!
Incidentally, the hotel du ville (town hall) in Calais is a beautiful building, worthy of a few snaps...
It was a warm evening and after dinner we settled at a pavement cafe for coffee and liquers...
